Lyme Valley Stadium – Saturday 19th September 2020 – 3pm Kick Off
The game became alive straight away with a fast attack by Newcastle Town which resulted in a good opportunity to go ahead just 2 minutes in, the ball dropped kindly to Chimenes to attempt to hit it on the volley but it was denied by a very strong hand by goalkeeper Jonathan Hedge, after a very good bit of goalkeeping we then saw the opposite when Newcastle’s Number One had a fluffed his clearance and Cody Priors missed the header which could’ve gone in, but it then dropped to Vigears who took a touch to his side but could only blast it wide of the post, after the opening 5 minutes both sides didn’t really make any more clear cut chances and the two teams went in at half time at 0-0.
The second half couldn’t have started any better as a tricky run by McLean turning in and out and was bought down and a penalty was given to Newcastle a penalty 2 minutes into the second half, up stepped Joe Berks to put the home side in front but he fluffed his lines in an horrendous manner, he seemed to hit it on the bottom of his studs and it rolled slowly behind the goal and the score remained 0-0, 20 minutes later frustration started to show from Sheffield when Chapman put in a horrible tackle which from first looks, it looked like a certain red and he was extremely lucky to escape with just a yellow card. The game following that tackle was very dull and it ended as a 0-0 draw in the opening game of the season, it’s a point and a clean sheet for either side but with the intensity of how the two teams played it was destined to be a thriller, but no goal came and it was a very frustrating 0-0 draw.
