Hanley Town vs Redditch United

Written by on 24 September 2020

The Magic of The Cup! Hanley Town have Miraculously progressed in the FA Cup with a stunning comeback at home to Redditch United. The game burst into life from the get-go with both sides starting the game with back to forth attacking football, but the first goal came in the 43rd minute when a looping pass dropped to Hanley’s Kieran Brown who hit an absolute rocket of a volley from 30 yards out and it thundered into the top right corner to send Hanley 1-0 up at the interval.

But at Half Time, Kyle Stubbs pushed Jack Storer to get into the dressing room, and Storer reacting by grabbing the throat of Stubbs and appearing to throw a punch, this started a bundle of players and staff trying to stop the situation but it wasn’t helped by the reaction from the fans, Storer got a Red Card at half time which would mean Redditch would play the second half with 10 men.

When Redditch came out at half time with 10 men, most spectators would’ve thought that they had no chance, however 3 minutes into the half a silly tackle in the box gave Redditch the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot, Thomas Rankin dispatched the penalty into the bottom right corner, then in the 65th minute it got better for Redditch as a free kick was awarded 22 yards out on the right side of the box for a silly foul, up stepped Horton to bend a weak shot towards the top left corner and Chapman attempted to punch it away, but he punched it into his own goal to give Redditch a very surprising 2-1 lead.

In the 80th Minute Alex Cameron had the chance to win the game for Redditch but he missed the opportunity from point blank and he would pay for that as straight up the other end of the pitch, recently introduced Brian Barton would score a superb volley into the bottom left corner to equalise for the home side.

And it would get even better for Hanley as they would get a penalty 4 minutes later and the chance to win it. Barton was tripped and Ricardo Fuller stepped up to take the spot kick, he took little steps before hitting it into the bottom right corner to send the home side 3-2 up and they went on to win the Game and they are now in the Fa Cup Second Round Qualifying for the first time!

Mick Morton was pleased with his team’s performance saying and mentioned Brian Barton’s impact after coming onto the pitch. “he’s scored two wonder goals in 2 weeks” and “He works hard in training” Mick was also very pleased by the fighting spirit saying that “He’s Chuffed to bits for the lads for the fight they put up”
