Stoke back on winning trail

Stoke City returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory at struggling Wycombe last night.

Nick Powell netted the winner with a far post header on 72 minutes to secure all three points.

It was the striker’s fourth goal of the season.

Victory for Michael O’Neill’s side has lifted them up to 8th in the Championship table.

Meanwhile Stoke have signed experienced goalkeeper Andy Lonergan on a short-term contract.

The 37-year-old is a free agent after spending last season at Liverpool.

The Potters made their move for another stopper after Niki Maenpaa, who joined the club last week, suffered a hand injury in training.

Stoke return to action on Saturday when they entertain Middlesbrough who are currently 10th and just a point behind them.
