Workers from the city council in Stoke are being redeployed to support critical care staff at the Royal Stoke Hospital to help in the fight against an increasing number of Coronavirus cases.
Council leader Abi Brown says the demand on our hospital is severe and we’re only too pleased to support our colleagues. All the workers will help with non-clinical tasks.
Latest figures show that the seven-day rate of Covid-19 cases in the city is 448.2 per 100,000 people, for the week ending to the 6th January. That figures up 55 per cent on the previous seven days.
Meanwhile the local authority in Stoke has written to 41 businesses in the city with the offer of rapid result testing.
Larger businesses now have the opportunity to roll out COVID-19 testing for their employees. Council bosses say by joining the programme businesses will be playing a key role in protecting their workforce and the wider community.
