Some very sad news – The man who founded the Potteries Marathon has died.
Don Shelley, who was 84 and from Stone, has passed away after a long illness.
The marathon was first run in 1982 and started on Moorland Road in Burslem and became one of the most iconic races in the country. The following year the race moved to Trentham Gardens, where it started and finished for the next two decades.
But due to dwindling numbers over the years, a new race was born and it then became known as the Potters Arf in 2005 and is still going strong today.
The race this year is set to take place in September, due to the pandemic.
