764 incidents off abuse to roadworkers

Highways bosses in Staffordshire are calling for an end to abuse suffered by road workers after 764 incidents were reported last year.
These included incidents where drivers either entered roadwork safety zones through cones, threw objects, spat at or verbally abused highways operatives.
Now the local authority has branded the abuse as ‘unacceptable’ and reminded motorists how engineers are working to keep the roads safe.
Police say they’ll investigate such incidents and take the necessary enforcement action.
