COUNCIL LAUNCHES LANDFILL INVESTIGATION

The Environment Agency says Red Industries have breached their permit at Walleys Quarry in Silverdale.
It comes after they found water which had drained from the landfill waste and collected on site had the potential to cause odour and the failure to manage it properly
The Agency says they’ve told the operator to take action to remove the collected water which must be dealt with at the onsite treatment plant or removed by tanker without delay.
Meanwhile a council led investigation into widespread reports of foul smelling odours is underway.
It comes after the local authority received an unprecedented number of complaints about the landfill site when more than 2,000 residents contacted them about foul smells affecting their homes, families and quality of life.
