Written by on 21 March 2021

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a student who was fatally stabbed in east London on Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested yesterday and is in custody at an east London police station, the Metropolitan Police said.

Hussain Chaudhry, a first-year law student, died following the attack in Lea Bridge Road, Walthamstow, at about 5.20pm.

His sister has told how he died “cradled in his mother’s arms”.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination showed the cause of death was a hypovolemic shock and a stab wound to the neck.

His family said: “We are deeply grieved by the loss of our beloved Hussain and respectfully ask for the privacy and space to come to terms with this tragic situation.

“We thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their kindness, compassion, condolences, prayers and goodwill.”

Hussain’s mother and brother had both been taken to hospital after suffering from slash wounds to their hands – his brother has since been discharged.

Detective Chief Inspector Perry Benton, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “A young man has lost his life in tragic circumstances and my thoughts remain with his family and friends at this awful time.

“I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward and speak with my team. Any piece of information could prove to be vital.”
