Lady Gaga’s House of Gucci film prompts fashion-house heirs to appeal to director over their portrayal

Guccio Gucci’s great-grandchildren say they are “truly disappointed” with their family’s depiction in a new film starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.
The upcoming House of Gucci movie is based on a book about the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci, which led to the infamous trial and conviction of his ex-wife who served 16 years for contracting his murder.
However, the family have expressed their concerns surrounding the new film, saying it is an intrusion into the private lives of the Gucci heirs, appealing to the film’s director Sir Ridley Scott to respect their family legacy.

Patrizia Gucci, Maurizio’s cousin, said: “We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family.
“They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system… our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything. But there is a borderline that cannot be crossed.”
She added that she has reached out to Sir Ridley’s wife, Giannina Facio, who has previously met with members of the the family, regarding their issues with the film – but has heard no response.
Patrizia also threatened to take further action after viewing the film.
Their issues range from the actors cast, to the lack of communication the production company have had with the Gucci family, and the numerous inaccuracies in the book on which the film is based.
In the film, Al Pacino plays Guccio Gucci’s eldest son Aldo, whose granddaughter says she remembers him as being an adept businessman who helped expand Gucci’s global reach.

Speaking about paparazzi photos from set, Patrizia stated: “My grandfather was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant.
“He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all.”
Meanwhile, Jared Leto, who is playing Paolo Gucci, was pictured with unkempt hair and wearing a lilac corduroy suit – something Patrizia said “offended” her.
The Gucci family has not been involved with the fashion house since 1993, after Maurizio sold his shares to the Bahrain-based company, Investcorp. Gucci was later bought by the French group PPR, which is now Kering.
Salma Hayek, who is married to the CEO of Kering, appears in the film.
