Mark Wahlberg and brother Donnie pay tribute to their mother after her death aged 78

Written by on 19 April 2021

Mark Wahlberg’s mother, Alma, has passed away at the age of 78.

Wahlberg confirmed the news on social media on Sunday, saying “My angel. Rest in peace.”

It is not clear what caused his mother’s death.

In a longer tribute, his brother Donnie, who was in the pop group New Kids On The Block, wrote on Instagram: “I’m so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by and set on my life’s path by, such an amazing woman.

“My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people – combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from – undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am.

“I’ve often said, if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma. I say that, because it’s true.

“She was, without a doubt, the most loving human being I’ve ever known.

“I never heard her say, or do, anything disrespectful to anyone. She was, as anybody who ever came across her knows, true blue.

He added: “I love you, miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always.

“Forever – your Baby Donnie.”

The Wahlberg matriarch was born in 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts, later giving birth to nine children.

Before joining her son on screen, she had previously worked at a bank and as a nurse’s aide.

She had starred in her son’s reality show Wahlburgers, which ran for five years from 2014 and followed the family’s move into the restaurant business.

Mrs Wahlberg worked as a greeter and hostess at the family’s restaurants, including at Alma Nove, which was named after her.
