Man, who fled to Sweden, sentenced for death of Knypersley woman

A man and woman are hoping the death of their 71-year-old mother from north Staffordshire will lead to improvements to mental and social care.
Kenneth McDermid, was given a hospital order with restrictions after he admitted manslaughter by diminished responsibility for unlawfully killing Ann Morse from Knypersley. Wendy, as she was known, was found at her home in Tunstall Road in March last year.
McDermid from Sneyd Green, fled the country and was arrested in Sweden five days later.
A court was told the 43-year-old, had been engaged with mental health services for a number of years and was suffering from a complex form of mental illness prior to, and at the time of, the offence.
