John Boyega is reprising the role that launched his career after it was announced that a sequel to Attack The Block is being made.
The 2011 sci-fi film, directed by Joe Cornish, achieved cult-status following its release despite not performing well at the box office.
Boyega played Moses, a south London teenager forced to defend his council estate from predatory extra-terrestrial creatures.
The film also starred Dr Who star Jodie Whittaker, Nick Frost and Luke Treadaway.
Boyega’s career went stratospheric in the years following and he was cast as Finn in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The actor, from Peckham, was named BAFTA’s Rising Star the same year.
He won a best supporting actor Golden Globe earlier this year for his role in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe television series.
Attack The Block was Cornish’s directorial debut before he went on to co-write Ant-Man and direct The Kid Who Would Be King.
Now, a decade on from the original, both Boyega and Cornish have confirmed they will be making Attack The Block 2, although plot details are being kept under wraps.
In quotes reported by Deadline, Boyega said: “It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then.
“I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
And Cornish said: “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of ‘Attack The Block’ on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release.
“I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
The film will be made by Film4, Studiocanal, Complete Fiction Pictures and Boyega’s production company UpperRoom Productions.
