Alan Partridge: Steve Coogan taking comedy character on tour ‘with a message of hope’
Written by Hitmix News on 26 May 2021
Alan Partridge – the man known for his adoration of the BBC, ill-fated chat shows, and a fledging local radio career in Norfolk – is heading out on a national tour.
Partridge, played by comedy actor Steve Coogan, will hit arenas up and down the UK (or the Scissored Isle, as he refers to it) next year, hot on the heels of the character’s return to the BBC.
In a clip announcing the show, Coogan, dressed as his comedy alter-ego, says “whether you’re a pro-European who’s had the jab, or a Brexiteer who doesn’t believe in vaccines”, he wants to “build a bridge”.

The show, called Stratagem, promises to “inform, educate and entertain in approximately equal measure” – as Partridge attempts to offer a way forward for the country in the aftermath of Brexit and COVID.
Coogan’s comedy offering has seen a boost in popularity over the last few years, with Alan returning to his chat show roots on the spoof series This Time – a clear satirical take on the BBC’s The One Show.
He also hosted his own 18-part podcast, From The Oasthouse, last year, which sees the character discuss everyday topics from his beloved rural Norfolk.
As well as that, Partridge has had his own film (Alpha Papa) and Sky Atlantic shows, which helped him break out into, albeit spoof, documentary making.
Stratagem is not the first time Partridge has been on stage, with him often forming part of Coogan’s live shows, standing alongside his broad repertoire of characters.
However, this show has been “devised, written, choreographed, performed, and funded by Alan Partridge”.

The team adds: “Stratagem sees Alan not just treading the boards but pounding them, atop stages graced by such luminaries as Michael Ball, Jack Whitehall and Welsh rockers the Stereophonics.”
You can catch Alan at most arenas around the UK, with tickets going on general sale on Saturday.
