A ‘Letter Before Action’ has been served to the operators of Walley’s Quarry by Newcastle Borough council as a result of ongoing and persistent odour issues that are affecting the daily lives of local residents.
Council Leader Simon Tagg says we know thousands of residents are continuing to suffer as a result of regular, persistent and offensive gas odours originating from the landfill site.
The Council shares the community’s concerns and has over the last few months been carrying out its own investigation – a lot of that has been happening behind the scenes to meet legal requirements so officers and councillors haven’t been able to talk about it publicly.”
