Former Port Vale striker Ernie Moss has died aged 71.
He joined the Vale from Chesterfield in June 1981, for just 12 thousand pounds. He was Vale’s top scorer and player of the year in the 81/82 season, scoring 28 goals in 84 appearances in all competitions.
Moss, who became a cult hero at Vale Park formed a terrific partnership with Bob Newton and was also part of the team promoted from the fourth tier the following season.
Meanwhile the Vale have signed Lewis Cass on a season long loan from Newcastle.
The 21-year-old defender made 35 appearances on loan at Hartlepool last season playing his part in helping them win promotion back to the Football League.
