22.10.21 – County Lines Intensification Week, Brown Bins and Secondary School Applications

Written by on 24 October 2021

Twenty-eight arrests were made and one person was safeguarded during Staffordshire’s most successful County Lines Intensification Week to date.

From Monday 11 to Friday 15 October, officers arrested 21 adult males, one boy and six adult females from Stoke-on-Trent, Cannock, Tamworth and Burton for drug offences. Eight people were charged and remanded.

Police seized drugs in excess of £35,000 along with more than £60,600 in cash plus weapons including a long-barrelled WW2 rifle, two lock knives and a crossbow.  Police also seized five drug-line mobile phones.

Forces and agencies across England and Wales worked together in this intensification week targeting these activities. Numerous presentations with schools and care homes were exercised, and letters were  delivered to parents of all children in Staffordshire.

And finally good luck to our local football teams this weekend, Stoke City are travelling to south east London to take on Millwall, Port Vale are hosing Colchester and Crewe Alexandra travelling to Buckinghamshire to face Wycombe Wanderers.  In local non-league football, Newcastle town are travelling to Ramsbottom United and Kidsgrove Athletic are hosting Mossley.

Gardeners across Stoke-on-Trent are reminded that their seasonal brown bin collections will stop at the end of the month, but residents will now have the option to extend their brown bin collections in a new scheme.

The council currently collects brown bins – free of charge – between April and October, and now for a one-off charge per bin per season, residents can sign up to receive collections from November until ‘normal’ collections start again in April.   For residents not signing up to the scheme collections stop on Friday 29 October.

Residents in Newcastle-under-Lyme who take part in the Brown Bins scheme will have their bin collected as normal throughout the winter months.

And finally, a reminder that Parents have just over a week to apply for a secondary school in Staffordshire.

Admission applications to secondary schools close on October 31, meaning parents still have time to make that all-important decision on which secondary school their child will attend in September 2022.
