19.10.21 – Rob Barber, Cycling Scheme, Staffordshire Police Appeal, Fiver Fest in NUL

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed a new fire chief, Rob Barber.  Rob, who was previously the service’s deputy chief fire officer, took up his new role yesterday after a 24-year career with the service.  After starting at  Newcastle Fire Station in 1997, Rob is honoured to now be able to lead Staffordshire Fire and Rescue.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has launched a public consultation on proposed cycling and walking improvement schemes in the city.

The city council has been awarded more than £600,000 from the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund, which was set up to support local authorities to create safer, easier to use spaces for pedestrians and cyclists.

Three schemes have been put forward, which the public can now have their say on -namely Introducing a bus gate on College Road, Cycle Lanes on Shelton new Road and Cycle hire at various city locations

The consultation will run until Sunday, November 7. People can view the proposals and have their say by visiting www.stoke.gov.uk/activetravelfund

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a collision in Newcastle under Lyme last Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to Cherry Close at 1.25 on 13th October following a single-vehicle collision, involving a purple Volkswagon Caddy Max.
A woman in her 60s suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital in a critical condition.  Unfortunately, the lady sadly died on Friday.
Witnesses who may have seen the vehicle before the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage are asked to contact Staffordshire Police social media or by calling 101.
