29.10.21 – Halloween, Cyber Champion Programme, Breast Cancer Awareness, Local Football this weekend

Written by on 28 October 2021

For  Parents and carers, making final preparations for Halloween this weekend, Staffordshire Police are sharing some guidance for you and your children to celebrate Halloween safely.

Make sure children are accompanied by a responsible adult if they go out trick or treating and they don’t go alone and consider bright costumes or reflective strips so they can be seen by drivers when they cross the road

You should stay in well lit areas and only go to the houses of people that you know and who are happy for you to visit.   And always be careful not to frighten any elderly or vulnerable people.

The Cyber Champion programme, launched in 2018, is supported by the police, the Fire and Crime Commissioner, Staffordshire University and the Regional Organised Crime Unit. The programme offers specific training to local organisations in identifying cyber-crime such as phishing emails, scams or cyber-attacks who will then go on to become part of the Cyber Champion network in Staffordshire.

Now in its fourth year, Staffordshire Police are looking for more local businesses to get on board and learn about how to enhance cyber safety in the workplace, in the wider community and to understand why it is more important than ever to protect data.  For more information on how to get involved, contact CyberCrimeUnit@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk.

We are coming to the end of October which has been is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Just because the awareness month is over, don’t forget to still carry out those regular checks.

The United Hospitals of North Midlands Charity want to say THANK YOU to Sallyanne Hair & Beauty Studio in Basford for supporting their Breast Care Team by decorating the whole salon in pink during October and selling cupcakes and cookies to clients to raise funds for their work.

It was a real team effort with staff members making cakes every night, and customers buying them throughout the day.

If you feel inspired to do your own fundraising for UHNM Charity, for more details go to https://www.uhnmcharity.org.uk/get…/your-fundraising/

And good luck to our local football sides this weekend … Stoke City will be hosting Cardiff City at the Bet365 stadium, Port Vale will be travelling to West Sussex to take on Crawley Town, Crewe Alexandra are at home at Gresty Road against MK Dons.  In non leagues Football, Newcastle Town and Kidsgrove Athletic are both playing FA Trophy 3rd qualifying round matches and both are away – Newcastle are travelling to Sutton Coldfield Town and Kidsgrove are travelling to Carlton Town.

To hear the results of those matches – George Andrews will be giving an update of all things sporting on Sonya Farrall’s Sunday morning Local and Live Show between 10 and 12, where Sonya keeps us updated on everything that is going on in and around our area.

And finally, don’t forget that the clocks go back this weekend, so before you go to bed on Saturday night, make sure you put your clocks back an hour.
