10.11.21 -Queens Fire Service Medal for Becci Bryant, Environmental Funding, Single Use Plastics, Staffordshire Safer Road Website

Written by on 10 November 2021

HRH Prince Charles has awarded former Chief Fire Officer, Becci Bryant, with the Queen’s Fire Service Medal.  The prestigious medal is given to members of the fire services in the UK and Commonwealth in recognition of distinguished services or gallantry.

Since joining the service in 1992, Becci, who retired earlier this year, rose through the ranks, and her appointment to Chief Fire Officer in 2016 made history as she became the first woman in the UK to have achieved such a distinguished position after beginning her career as an operational fire fighter.

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Ben Adams, said: “ “I had the pleasure of working with Becci for just a few months as Staffordshire Commissioner, but I’ve been aware of her as an inspiring leader in our county for some years, and her decades of work devoted to protecting our communities. This award is well deserved.”

The county council funding is open to not-for profit organisations including charities, societies, voluntary and community groups, parish councils and schools.

Businesses across Staffordshire are being reminded about rules on the use and supply of single-use plastics which came into force in October 2020.

Staffordshire County Council’s Trading Standards officers are using the COP26 Climate Change conference this week as an opportunity to remind  businesses about their responsibilities.

The ban, which applies to the supply of single use plastic straws, stemmed cotton buds and drink stirrers, was introduced to help reduce the impact on the environment and protect wildlife. The ban applies to businesses that supply the products, including manufacturers and retailers.

You can report the supply or sale of single use plastics to Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
