12.11.21 – The Colour Room, Ditch the Blade, Local Sport, Switch-off Fortnight, Beware Bogus Callers

Written by on 11 November 2021

Scenes shot at the stunning Gladstone Pottery Museum will soon fill the big screen in a film about one of the world’s most influential ceramic artists.

The Sky Original movie, ‘The Colour Room’, based on the rise of one of Stoke-on-Trent’s most famous former residents, Clarice Cliff, was filmed on location in the city.

The popular Gladstone Pottery Museum -which reopens to the public tomorrow – features heavily in the film with shooting in the cobbled courtyard and workshops.

Best known for her innovative, colour-rich designs, Clarice Cliff is synonymous not only with Stoke-on-Trent, but also with Art Deco and she is now revered and collected all over the world.

Officers from Staffordshire Police are warning people to be on their guard against suspicious callers at the door following a bogus official incident in Stoke-on-Trent.

The advice comes after it was reported a female bogus gas official attended properties on Trent Valley Road at around 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon

She is described as white, with fair hair and was seen wearing black clothing.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone with information, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area prior to the incident.

Did you know that right through until the 21st November it is ‘Switch off Fortnight’,

to encourage people to reduce their everyday energy use and have a positive impact on addressing the climate emergency.

Even the smallest things can help – switching off the lights after leaving a room, turning appliances off at the mains, turning the heating off while the weather is still relatively mild or reducing by just 1 degree when you do switch it on.

We can all play our part.  For more information visit the energy saving trust website.

Staffordshire Police’s ongoing Ditch the Blade campaign will be focussing on the impact knife crime has on parents and families next week.

Between 15 – 21 November, in support of  Operation Sceptre, police and partners will highlight the impact of knife crime through engagement and advice, while operationally using intelligence-led deployments, weapons sweeps and high-visibility patrols to target and disrupt offenders who carry and use knives. Police will also be visiting retailers in order to remind staff of their responsibilities when knives are purchased.
