07.01.22 – UHNM Charity, Weekend Sport, Electrical House Fire in Biddulph, Potters Arf

Written by on 7 January 2022

On Christmas Eve, UHNM Charity were thrilled to celebrate the arrival of two children’s heart scanners- a wonderful gift to younger patients and of course to staff at the hospital.

The scanners will be used to pick up heart defects in patients from premature babies to 16 years olds, and will be used on both wards and outpatient clinics, so lots of patients will be able to benefit from them and they will reduce waiting times for families in our area.

The Charity was able to purchase the scanners thanks to supporters like Chris Gibbs, who raised almost £15,000 towards them by completing a 282-mile trek back in 2021 in memory of his late son Thiago, who had received care at Royal Stoke.

If you would like to fundraise for the united Hospitals of North Midlands  and help improve the care and experience of patients visit

Good luck to our local football teams this weekend …  on Sunday Stoke City are taking on Leyton Orient in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and Port Vale also have an FA cup game against Brentford – but on Saturday.   Our two non league division 1 side are both at home this Saturday – Newcastle Town are facing Widnes and Kidsgrove Athletic will be taking on Clitheroe.

To hear what happened in the Saturday matches tune into Sonya Farrall’s local and live show between 10 and 12 on Sunday morning, where George Andrews will be giving a sporting update, and Sonya of course will be sharing good news from in and around our area.

The cause of a house fire in Biddulph on Wednesday Evening (05.01.22) has been deemed accidental following an investigation by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue
