Macclesfield 4 v 0 Ramsbottom United

Written by on 11 December 2022

Just the one Non league game took place this weekend – the weather unfortunatelty meant that the others were cancelled

Macclesfield 4 v 0 Ramsbottom United

Macclesfield took full advantage of games elsewhere falling foul of the cold spell with a 4-0 thumping of Ramsbotton United at the Moss Rose.

The club had asked for volunteers to help clear the pitch of snow and they were rewarded with three points to extend the Silkmen’s lead at the top of the table.

Nicky Maynard put the home side in the driving seat on 18 minutes, driving a low shot into the far corner of the net and the league leaders never looked back from that point.

There were no further goals during the opening forty-five minutes, but supporters didn’t have to wait too long after the break for their side’s second.

In the 51st minute, top scorer James Berry picked up a loose ball and broke through the visitors’ defence unchallenged before rounding United ‘keeper Harry Turner.

He celebrated his birthday by calmly rolling the ball into an empty net for his 14th goal of the season to double Macclesfield’s lead.

It was 3-0 after 68 minutes when Neil Kengni went straight through unchallenged down the right hand side before prodding home to extend the Silkmen’s lead.

It seemed to signal a temporary collapse of the visitors’ defence, as two minutes later Macclesfield grabbed a fourth goal.

Kengri was involved again, this time cutting the ball back for Tre Pemberton. His heavy touch went in via a deflection from United’s Oscar Radcliffe to further punish the visitors.

Next up for Dave McNabb’s side is a trip to face fifth-placed Clitheroe at their Shawbridge ground next weekend.
