Leek Town 3 – 2 Bootle

Written by on 18 December 2022

Dave Johnson reports on the ONLY ONE of our local non league matches to go ahead due to the weather!

Leek Town v Bootle

Leek Town had their 3G pitch to thank after their game was able to go ahead against an in-form Bootle at Harrison Park and they responded with a 3-2 victory.

It was one of only two fixtures in the Northern Premier League West Division to go ahead after the rest of the fixtures fell foul to the weather.

The win, along with Runcorn Linnets surprisingly dropping two points away to Widnes saw them reclaim second place, and they are again five points behind leaders Macclesfield with a game in hand.

With no goals in the opening forty-five minutes, things were looking bleak for the home side when they conceded two goals in the space of three minutes early in the second half.

It was Tom Peterson who put Bootle in front when he beat Dan Roberts in the Leek goal after 51 minutes, then in the 54th minute Simon Wills joined him on the scoresheet to put the visitors well in command and on their way to three points – or so they thought.

Leek hit back with three goals in nine minutes to shock the visitors and claim maximum points, after Scott Wara pulled a goal back in the 64th minute, before a brace from Dan Trickett-Smith in the 67th and 73rd minutes completed the come-back.
