Midweek Non League Action – 14.02.23

By Dave Johnson

Stafford Rangers v Ashton United

Rangers’ boss Matty Hill will be well aware of the tenuous position they find themselves in after a disastrous run of results leaves them too close to the foot of the table for comfort.

Level on points with their Valentine’s night opponents, there will be no love lost when the two sides battle it out at Marston Road in what can only be described as a ‘six-pointer’.

Lose this one and Stafford really are in a relegation scrap, especially given that many of the sides below them have the luxury of games in hand.

Three points from the last twenty-four on offer is hardly an inspiring return, but hopefully they can carry some belief from the three points they won in their last home game – a 2-0 win against Marske United.

Congleton v Bury AFC

After their FA Vase heroics at the weekend, which saw them progress into the quarter finals of the competition Congleton are back in league action.

Bury are the visitors to the Cleric Stadium and The Bears will be keen to get back on track in the league after dropping points in each of their last three games.

With three draws in a row before their trip to Old Wulfurnians at the weekend, player boss Richard Duffy, who was red-carded in that game, will remind his players this one is a tough fixture.

Bury are ten points better off than his side, and have three games in hand, so it will have to be a special effort against a side who are on a run of seven consecutive wins and who are fellow FA Vase quarter-finalists.
