A woman has been arrested following the tragic deaths of two children in Stoke-on-Trent at the weekend.
Staffordshire Police were first called to a car wash on Campbell Road at 2 o’clock on Sunday afternoon (11.06.23) following reports of an assault involving a man and a woman.
A man in his 40s was taken to hospital by paramedics – his injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.
Officers then proceeded to a home on Flax Street and arrested a 49-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent.
Two children, 11 year old Ethan John and 7 year old Elizabeth John, were found inside, both with injuries and unresponsive. Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, both of them died at the scene.
Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
As a result, the woman was further arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in Police custody.
Detective Superintendent Nicki Addison said: “This is a tragic case and we are working hard to understand more about what happened leading up to these two children losing their lives. We ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances at this stage as it is distressing for family and friends, and could hinder enquiries.
Anyone with any information which could help Police with their investigation are asked to get in touch as soon as possible, They are particularly interested in any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area of Flax Street and Campbell Road between 1.30 and 2.30pm on Sunday, or those who were in the area at the time.
