This Sunday, 29th September, The Potters Arf will be taking place – a challenging 13.1-mile race held across the city of Stoke-on-Trent, featuring the famous “Heartbreak Hill” section. This iconic event attracts runners from across the country who are drawn to the hilly course and more importantly the incredible support from the local community. Participants are rewarded with a unique medal and a thrilling city centre finish. Not only does the Potters ‘Arf offer physical challenges, but it also provides significant mental and health benefits. It also raises funds for local charities. The walkers start at 8.30, so get your position in the town centre nice and early.
A fantastic event like this doesn’t come without a few downsides – and there will be some road closures – these start in the city centre at 5am and continue throughout the day until approximately 1.30 pm in some areas. If you are out and about on Sunday – we hope it is because you are coming to support the walkers and runners in the Potters Arf – if not – plan your route – go to the website Potters-Arf.co.uk/roadclosures. You will find all of the information you need.
So, here’s how it is all happening – 8.30 the Walkers start and at 10 am the runners begin the race followed closely at 10.15 and 10.30 by the Junior racers. Go to the website Potters-Arf.co.uk for all of the information you need – times, the course, road closures, a very detailed Event Guide, and the answers to some frequently asked questions. If you would like to volunteer as a Marshall or general helper you can also do that through the website. There are many people running for various local charities which is fantastic. At the Hitmix, we are sponsoring Chris Flynn from Giliker Flynn who is running to raise funds for The Peter Pan Centre – an amazing local charity looking after young children with special educational needs. We are also sponsoring Dave and Sue Hughes who are walking the race to raise funds for CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young, to raise funds in memory of their son Dan. If you would like to support the Peter Pan Centre or CRY by sponsoring Chris or Dave and Sue – here are the links to their Just Giving pages …
