Theatre Review – Rocky Horror Show Regent Theatre – 6th May 2025
‘The Rocky Horror Show’ opened at the Regent Theatre this week to a colourful, sexy lingerie clad audience who were ready for a fun filled night of singing and laugher. Its 52 years since Richard O’Brien’s shocking and crazy show’ which pays homage to early science fiction films, opened in theaters in 1973 when it developed its cult following which remains today.

Filled with madness and mayhem the show delights with its naughtiness, sexiness and iconic music. It belies its age as it is still as enthralling as the day it launched.
The narrator Jackie Clune expertly takes the audience through the story of Brad and Janet (played by Connor Carson and Lauren Chia) who, on the way home from a wedding, suffer a flat tyre and find themselves at the mercy of the occupants of a nearby castle. Jackie’s quick wit fires back hilarious responses to the heckling and responses provided by die hard fans in the audience.

From the very beginning the music and dancing is brilliantly supported by the orchestra located above the stage set. From the opening Science Fiction/Double Feature and the very well known Time Warp the show entertains and thrills the audience and the moment that Frank N Furter (played in his own unique way by Adam Strong) enters the stage with Sweet Transvestite the fun really begins when the hapless and innocent Brad and Janet are indoctrinated into a world of “pleasures of the flesh”. They are introduced to Rocky (played by Morgan Jackson who brings a particular comedic element to the role) a muscle bound mini adonis who had been created by Frank N Furter for his pleasure. The whole cast and production are wonderful in their execution of this classic, from the iconic music, singing, dancing to the atmospheric lighting giving the illusion of lightning storms and spaceships.

Definitely to be recommended for a fun filled night out ….. dig out your Basques and stockings to join in the fun!
