Big Big Sky, a beautiful play set in Kilnsea, a small village by the sea.  The complete play is set in the beach café – and what a fantastic set.  I wanted to go and sit down in that little café and chat to Angie and Laura – it was so realistic, so authentic down to the last detail, and when coupled with the sounds of the birds and the sea, the lighting also the graphics of the waves around the set – it felt like  the perfect holiday destination.

A great story of course, covering many different moods and emotions and covering many different celebrations and stages of life – love, friendship, family and of course loss, which comes into all our lives at some point.  Although, in the main the play was very uplifting, the more serious parts about grief went very deep and it was difficult to hold back the tears.

The casting for this play is spot on.  Four wonderful actors Tanya Loretta Dee, Roxanne Morgan, Simeon Truby and Sam Baker-Jones playing four wonderful characters – Angie, Lauren, Dennis and Ed! The on-stage chemistry and obvious complete harmony and friendship between the four was clear for all to see.

The line dancing at the end is absolutely joyful!! Roxanne Morgan – what a voice! That wonderful voice added so much depth to Laura’s quite complex character and to the story in general!

There were many laughs, most provided by Sam Baker-Jones’s character Ed, and also the reaction of the other four actors to his rather awkward, gawky, self-conscious but absolutely lovable, delightful character.  Who would think that the ‘too cool for school’ Sam could transform into Ed and play the part so well – every word, every movement brought the character to life.

A beautiful, provocative play, taking every emotion just far enough.  I felt a wonderful, light, enigmatic atmosphere throughout the whole production, and ‘Big Big Sky’ is now up there in my New Vic ‘Top Three’!  Definitely a FIVE STAR PRODUCTION!
