How do you possibly put on a play, in the round, which is taking place mainly under water? Oh … and make it magical?

The New Vic have once again delivered a Christmas play which will stay with children forever – a fantastical sub-sea set, full of beautiful fish, and delightful, tail-swishing mermaids – fabulous music by a wonderfully melodious coral band, mesmerising sound effects and lighting and absolutely magnificent costumes and puppetry – all of this coupled with breath-taking aerial dexterity and flow, and, of course, an outstanding cast ….

That’s how Theresa Heskins and the New Vic put on a magical underwater play to enthral their audiences …

And if ever I hear to question as to whether or not mermaids actually exist, I will say – yes they do – I have seen them!

Every child in Staffordshire should have the opportunity to see ‘The Little Mermaid’ – it is at The New Vic until 24^th January 2026 … for children and the whole family to enjoy!

It is the things that dreams are made of!!
