Written by Hitmix Local News on 22 August 2025
David Vaughan has been in touch to share the details about something that is also happening on Sunday. It is a Darts Marathan in a local Pub in Newcastle – the Castle Mona. It is starting at 9am on Sunday morning and finishing at 9pm Sunday night.
The entire darts team from the Castle mona are taking part. There will be around14 of them playing darts – they have decided to play long games with everyone involved, so with 7 people per team they will get a longer arm rest between throws. There will be food available and the doors will open at 9am – but obviously the bar will only be operating within the usual licenced hours. They team have all had shirts especially made for the day, bearing names chosen for them by Dave, ooh Dave I hope you’ve chosen well.
David Vaughan and his good friend David Pepper – they have been friends since primary school (36 years ago) have worked on this together involving the Castle Mona darts team of course.
They are aiming to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer – and they are doing well they have already raised £2000.
This is something close to Davids heart, a lot of friends and especially family as well…. David lost his father to cancer when he was just 10 years old, he was 42 and Davids mum was 38 at the time. It was David and his two brothers and just mum then. When Davids mum eventually remarried many years later they stabilised as a family and thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, Davids step dad then was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer which was on his lungs as well. He was told his chances of survival were slim. But 3 years later he’s still here after some miracle operations and care and support. Which is great news
However,
David’s best friend and best man at his wedding was diagnosed with a rare bile duct cancer and unfortunately succumbed to this within a short 3 months period. And finally David’s cousin died of bowel cancer only 11 weeks after he was diagnosed. Macmillan Cancer provided David’s cousin with love and support while he was ill , when the family were at work and not able to be there.
So a lot of loss and devastation there for David and his family – but there can’t be many people who haven’t suffered loss and devastation of some description through cancer, and if you would like to support David in raising funds for Macmillan Cancer which is a fantastic charity go to dartsmarathan.macmillan.org.uk which will take you to a page where you need to search Castle Mona – HERE IS THE LINK – https://dartsmarathon.macmillan.org.uk/teams/castle-mona-for-macmillan?fbclid=IwY2xjawLXNBdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHppFPWXcjLoArXSWGZu1Gwg1tT8gJNOtJyhQczPjS6Cc1uAUiACXcNFnLTbR_aem_xu1OlEa0297esoYDiCmh3A
If you want to go along and get involved on Sunday and enjoy the day David and David would be happy to see you there, any time between 9am and 9pm at Castle Mona in Newcastle
