Mid-week Non League Football – Tuesday 17th March

by Dave Johnson

Just two matches this week …..

Skelmersdale United v Leek Town

Leek Town make the trip to Lancashire on Tuesday night, where they face a Skelmersdale side hoping to follow up their victory against Clitheroe with the scalp of another side in the top half of the table.

Leek will have other ideas of course and will be looking for nothing less than three points to keep them within range of the current leaders.

A victory at the Community Ground would see Neil Baker’s side move to within five points of Macclesfield, and whilst closing the gap completely will be difficult, they have to be ready for any slip-ups the Silkmen may make between now and the end of the season.

Skelmersdale, who are hovering just above the bottom four, have lost seven of their last nine home fixtures and Baker will believe they are there for the taking.

Barnoldswick Town v Congleton Town

It’s back to league action for Congleton after their convincing FA Vase win at the weekend. They face a trip to the Borough of Pendle, Lancashire where they take on Barnoldswick Town.

Known by the locals as ‘Barnlick’, Town have 21 points from their 13 games at Greenberfield Lane and have been beaten four times on home soil.

Whilst Congleton’s home form has been more or less impeccable this season, away from home they need to improve, having won four and lost eight of their twelve games.

Currently sitting in sixth place, with at least one game in hand over all of the five teams above them, the Bears will be hoping they get another notch in their belts on Tuesday night.
