DOUBLE BY-ELECTION FOR NEWCASTLE COUNCIL

By-elections have been called after two councillors resigned their seats on Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
Nominations for people wanting to stand for election in either the Audley ward or the Knutton ward must be submitted before 4pm on Thursday, 10 August.
Voting will take place in the wards involved on Thursday, 7 September.
Would-be councillors must be British, Commonwealth or EU citizens, aged 18 or over, and meet at least one of the required residency or work connections with the Borough.
All the nomination forms, and accompanying guidance, can be found on the Electoral Commission website.
Nomination forms must be hand-delivered to Castle House, Barracks Road, Newcastle, ST5 1BL, between 10am and 4pm, before 4pm on Thursday, 10 August.
Candidates can call in advance on 01782 742249 to book an appointment to deliver their papers and have them informally checked before submission.
There are 44 seats on the authority. Including the two vacancies, the current position is that the Conservatives have 25 seats and Labour 17.
