Fatal House fire in Leek Deemed accidental

A woman has sadly died following a house fire in Leek at the weekend.

At 10.20 on Saturday night, the emergency services received a call from someone who saw smoke coming out of the windows of a home on James Street.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service forced their way inside and started work to extinguish the fire. A woman in her 70s was found unresponsive and sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family are being supported by specially-trained officers at this difficult time.  A scene has been set up at the address to determine how the fire started.

Officers from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue have been working alongside their colleagues at Staffordshire Police to determine how the fire started, and can now confirm it was as a result of an accidental electrical fault.
