Work to create a statue of Queen Elizabeth II in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, has begun – on the eve of what would have been her 98th birthday. Internationally-famous Staffordshire artist, Andy Edwards, of Stoke-on-Trent whose previous works include the landmark Beatles statue at Liverpool’s Pier Head, is basing the sculpture on photographs of the late Queen’s visit.
A launch event for the statue’s creation took place on Thursday at the council’s offices in Newcastle just three days before the 98th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s birth.
