23.01.23 – Etruria Valley Link Road Opens, Teenage Boy stabbed in Meir, Fire at Property in Stoke

Stoke-on-Trent’s newest road officially opens to traffic today, and motorists travelling around the city will be able to use the brand-new Etruria Valley Link Road during the evening rush hour.

The new road – which connects the A500 at Wolstanton to Festival Park – is set to become a key transport route for the city.

The aim of the new 1.2km road is to help alleviate traffic and congestion on the A500, A53 Etruria Road and surrounding areas as well as improving access to the Etruria Valley Enterprise Zone.

Six boys aged between 14 and 17, have been arrested after a teenage boy was stabbed in Meir.

Police were called to an address off Sandon Road just after 6.20 last Thursday afternoon, along with the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy, sustained facial and leg injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Inquiries are ongoing.   Staffordshire Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them on Facebook, Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident number 644 of 19 January.

A man has been arrested after a fire at property in Stoke.  Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and West Midlands Ambulance Service attended an address off Hartshill Road at 11.40 last Thursday morning.
On arrival, a man threw hot water at police officers.  An officer also had a fluid thrown at his eyes and sustained minor facial injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.  The fire was located and was extinguished, and following a period of negotiation, a 38-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, assaulting a person causing them actual bodily harm, assault by beating of an emergency worker and criminal damage to property.  Enquiries are ongoing.
