Marathons for CRY in memory of Dan Hughes – Rob, Chris and Andy

A few weeks ago, Dave Hughes from the local charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young came into the studio with three runners Rob, Chris and Andy who are hoping to raise some money for the charity in memory of his son Dan Hughes

Dave and his wife Sue and daughter Kim have been into the Hitmix studio many times talking about his Dan, and it never gets any easier to listen to – basically Dan was a fit and healthy 28 year old young man, he was the local postman and he took part in many different sports.  And he sadly died in his sleep on March 19th 2015 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.  Since then Dan’s family and friends have been working to raise awareness and stage screening sessions to detect problems with young people to save lives and to save other families suffering what they are suffering.

And the statistics are shocking – Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.  And these are Dan’s fund numbers now …  39 screening days complete, 3,698 hearts screened with 171 referrals. 171 referrals!!  Just imagine if they hadn’t been screened.

I want to make sure that you have the details of the three young men who are doing Marathons to raise money in memory of Dan.  They have been training hard and have put a lot of effort in.

So, starting with Rob Mottram …. Rob was good friends with Dan from School – and it was a double blow for Rob who as well as losing his friend in 2015 lost his sister Kate in 2019, She was just 29 and had three young children.  Rob will be running the Manchester Marathon on 16^th April in memory of Kate and to raise funds in memory of Dan.

Rob’s running partner Chris Hall also decided to join Rob at the Manchester Marathon on 16^th April, mainly because it is a charity which means so much to Rob, and because he believes that it is a great charity to support

Andrew Pointon is doing 2 marathons – first the Rome Marathon on 19^th March which is this coming Sunday followed by the London Marathon on 23^rd April.
