‘Our Space’ – Open Doors Afternoon – Tuesday 25th April

Written by on 12 April 2023

‘Our Space’ is a local charity which is based in Newcastle.  It is a great place where young people with a disability can be independent and they can find emotional support and also a social life – we have mentioned the ‘Our Space’ discos on more than one occasion.   Our Space, provides play sessions and support for people with all types of disabilities, including autism.  This month is ‘National Autism Month’ so as part of this the charity is inviting local businesses to join its ‘open doors’ afternoon in order to become more disability aware. It’s on Tuesday 25th April at their building in Stanier Street Newcastle … there will be refreshments, free awareness training and a tour of the premises.

The session will cover a mix of management and staff training, with advice on making reasonable adjustments in the workplace and also providing support for employees with a disability.  It will be led by skilled training practitioners from the charity ‘Disability Solutions’.   They basically want to build links with local businesses in order to support people with a disability – and hopefully mutually support each other.  If you have anyone with a disability in your place of work or if you have someone who is responsible for looking after the needs of anyone with a disability, let them know about this session.  We can all learn a little bit more to help a person with a disability feel more comfortable.

The charity has recently released a 3-minute video highlighting its work and the different ways businesses can get involved.
