FANTASTIC SHOW…HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Pretty Woman the Musical, a highly anticipated west end show certainly did not disappoint. A packed theatre fully appreciated the interpretation of a well loved film (one of my personal favourites) with original score music by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance ranging from the romantic, catchy and amusing, rock, right through to a wonderful night at the opera scene all of which showed the amazing vocal talents of the cast.
The central characters of Vivian and Edward in this very familiar story of an unlikely couple meeting and falling in love were perfectly played by Oliver Savile (Edward) and Rebekah Bryant (Vivian)( who was an understudy in this role, portrayed real chemistry and were electric on stage, their vocal talents were faultless. The show sticks very closely to the plot and script of the film with some of the script set to some really beautiful music
The show was at times sad, romantic but incredibly funny in parts with Ore Oduba playing two key roles, the happy man who introduces the story and Bernard Thompson the hotel manager, he also pops in some surprising places with a send up of his dancing skills (of course he was a winner of Strictly Come Dancing and is an accomplished dancer). Guilio played by Noel Harrison was also a consistent comedic character throughout alongside Ore.
Every story has a villain and this role of Phil Stuckey was extremely well played by Ben Darcy with the role of Kit de Luca (Vivian’s friend and mentor) superbly played by Natalie Paris whose voice was perfectly showcased in the raunchy rock style songs she performed.
All in all this was an absolute treat fantastic score, amazing acting, incredible voices from the whole cast and everyone involved in this production. The audience appreciation was demonstrated by a well deserved standing ovation and the cast encouraging the audience to join in singing along to the title song Pretty Woman and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric.
Pretty Woman runs until Saturday 20th July and I for one can heartily recommend it for a fun and thoroughly entertaining evening.
