Written by on 1 August 2023

A man and a woman have been arrested following a flat fire in Stoke-on-Trent at the weekend.

Just before 6 oclock on Sunday afternoon, Staffordshire Police were called by their colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue to Sutton Place, in Chell Heath.

Firefighters extinguished a fire inside the ground floor of the building, and despite no person being injured a dog was sadly found dead inside.

A 49-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, were both arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.   Police Officers are currently working alongside fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze and ask anyone with any information to get in touch with them.

You can call 101, quoting incident 556 of 30 July, or message them using Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police Website  – www.staffordshire.police.uk

You can also report anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Staffordshire Police are asking people to remain vigilant when selling goods through online marketplaces following several incidents last week.

Selling unwanted items online may be a good way of earning some extra money, but please take extra safety precautions when meeting up with someone you don’t know.

We would like to advise anyone selling items online to meet in a public place that is well lit and has CCTV if possible.

Don’t go inside someone’s home if you’ve never met them before and ask them to confirm their identity before arranging to meet.

If you experience something that you’d like to tell us about, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
