12.10.23 – Local Man loses his life, NUL Heart of England in Bloom Winners

The man who died after he was found injured at a flat in Blurton has been named by Police. Lee Jones, 49, from Silverdale, was found with injuries inside a property on Garsdale Crescent on Thursday 28 September. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but he sadly died in hospital the next day.
A 30-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent at the flat was further arrested on suspicion of murder after Lee’s death. She was released on conditional bail while officers continue to investigate.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme has been crowned overall winner of the prestigious Heart of England in Bloom competition for 2023.
The awards saw Newcastle bag first place in the small city category, collect its 21st consecutive gold award and also receive a judge’s discretionary award for outstanding achievement.
As part of Newcastle’s entry, Queens Gardens was planted with annual bedding on the theme of the 850th celebrations.
To promote sustainability in the town, work has begun on planting 850 native lime trees and town centre roundabouts were provided with pollinators and herbaceous and perennial plants.
This year volunteers have already donated the equivalent of 4,000 hours of work, while 14,662 trees have been planted across 12 sites.
