Improvement works in Trent Vale, 6 new childrens homes in Staffordshire

Written by on 21 February 2024

Improvement works to a junction in Trent Vale, along the A34, covering Newcastle Road, Clayton Lane, and Godwin Way, will start next Monday, 26 February.

Works will take approximately eight weeks and see improvements to network efficiency, junction operation, and the introduction of pedestrian crossings at the junction of Godwin Way and the north side of Newcastle Road.

Traffic Management will include temporary signals and lane closures whilst works take place, and will include a night time road closure of Clayton Lane and Godwin Way towards the end of the works. A diversion route will be in place for overnight closures. The closure will enable carriageway surfacing and road marking to take place safely for our highway staff.  Motorists are being urged to plan their travel in advance.

More children in care will be able to stay in Staffordshire, as plans by the county council have been given the green light.

A paper agreed to the county council’s cabinet, which is also being discussed at the authority’s Safeguarding Committee, outlines plans to open six in-house local authority run children’s homes.

The opening of six new homes will mean more children can be placed in a home within Staffordshire at a time when the number of children in care is rising nationally.

It also means children will be cared for in smaller local residential homes that meet their needs and would reduce the number of times a child must move.
