Artbox comes to Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire Stars go to Paris 2024

Written by on 22 July 2024

Newcastle-under-Lyme has seen the launch of ‘Artbox’ a public art initiative to transform the town’s streets with vibrant, artistic designs.

The project see’s 10 artists using every day BT boxes and electric cabinets as canvasses, to beautify public spaces by adorning these utility boxes and other street fixtures with unique, eye-catching designs. This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the town but also supports the local arts community by providing a platform for artists to showcase their work.

Artbox is being delivered in collaboration with Graphic Artist & Muralist, Rob Fenton, with contributions from talented artists from the local area and further afield.

People from across Staffordshire are being urged to cheer on their local athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics which starts on Friday.

Swimming legend Adam Peaty, slalom canoeists Adam Burgess and Joe Clarke and cyclists Dan Bigham and Sophie Capewell will all be representing Team GB in their quests to bring a medal back to the county.

Leader at Staffordshire County Council, Alan White, wants people to get behind the county’s stars and cheer them on.  He said: “I’m incredibly proud that Staffordshire athletes are amongst those heading off to Paris for the Olympic Games.

“We’ve been following our athletes’ careers and supporting them for a number of years now and have witnessed many spectacular achievements along the way.  They are wonderful role models for our young sports people, who will hopefully be inspired and go on to become the next generation of sports stars.
