Donate your unwanted care equipment, 16 new Firefighting recruits

Written by on 5 March 2024

Staffordshire County Council have joined forces with a local not for-profit organisation to correctly recycle care equipment and make it available to those who need it.  ‘Grace Cares’, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals in need, is behind the project, with all profits going to support the local community.  The organisation makes items available and accessible to individuals who might otherwise struggle to afford them.  Unwanted care aids and medical items can be donated at convenient collection points at any of Staffordshire’s 14 Household Waste Recycling Centres.  Typical items donated by people include walking aids, bathroom equipment, bed risers and commodes.

A former Championship rugby player, a recent sixth-form student and an ex-prison officer are just some of the new recruits who have joined Staffordshire Fire and Rescue.

The service welcomed 16 new wholetime firefighters to our service this month, with the new recruits set to take on an intensive 15-week training programme, which  will see them carry out a series of tasks that will equip them with the practical and technical skills needed to meet the demands of a modern day firefighter.

Once they have completed the course, a special presentation ceremony will be held in the summer, before the firefighters are posted to stations across Staffordshire.

They will spend the next two-and-a-half-years there, where they will further develop their knowledge, skills and experience.
