Green Flag Winners in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Written by on 22 July 2024

Six public spaces in Newcastle-under-Lyme have received a prestigious award for how well they’re looked after.

The Green Flag Award winners for 2024 are the Borough Council-owned Bradwell Crematorium, Brampton Park, Keele Cemetery, Lyme Valley Park, Queens Gardens and Wolstanton Park.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is also celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Burslem Park and Hanley Park.

Judging of the sites includes a visit by a ‘mystery shopper’, whose assessment includes how welcoming the site is, cleanliness, safety and environmental diversity.

Other criteria for the awards include how the community is involved and evidence of how the sites are regularly looked after and the management of environmental management, biodiversity and heritage.

The news that these places have achieved the accreditation – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces – is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care for the green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Both the borough and the city councils praised the hard work and dedication of the teams who keep our green spaces, green.

The Green Flag Award scheme, is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
