Written by on 17 October 2024

The family of a motorcyclist who died in a collision on the A500 recently have paid tribute to him.  Will Evans, aged 28, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, died shortly after 10pm on Friday 4 October, after being involved in a collision on the A500 at Audley, towards junction 16 of the M6.

Paying tribute to Will, his family said: “Will was loved by everyone. “He was fun-loving with a witty sense of humour. “He loved life, his time at the gym and riding his dream BMW motorbike.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses of the collision to come forward.

Anyone who saw what happened should contact them on 101 quoting incident number 761 of 4 October.

Outlawing goldfish and other pets as prizes, banning any form of hunting on council land and reuniting stray dogs with their owners as quickly as possible are priorities in a new animal welfare charter, produced by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council as part of a motion which received unanimous support at Full Council. The charter demonstrates its commitment to protecting and promoting the welfare of domestic and wild animals.

The guidelines – based on principles adopted by the RSPCA – range from promoting responsible pet ownership to the care of exotic animals and from angling to pesticide use on council-controlled public open spaces.

Cllr. David Hutchison, Cabinet member for Sustainable Environment, said: “As a nation, we are rightly proud of our reputation for being animal lovers. We all want to ensure that the welfare of animals is paramount in any given situation, whether they are a beloved pet dog, a fish in a local pond, a horse in a field or part of our local wildlife.  Once the charter is adopted by Full Council, it will be displayed on the council’s website and then regularly reviewed and updated to reflect changes in public opinion and national legislation.
