24.01.23 – Staffordshire Police Week of Action, Trentham Run for Liver Disease at UHNM, Lord Mayors Football Tournament

All ten of the Staffordshire Police local policing teams are stepping up their efforts to tackle community priorities in a neighbourhood week of action this week.

Local officers will be completing a range of different activities across the breadth of Staffordshire, including … Actioning intelligence leads ..  Crime prevention events in high-footfall areas .. and School visits around youth knife crime.   Also ‘Catch up with your Commander’ events will be held across all ten LPTs –The Commander for Newcastle-under-Lyme, John Owen, will be at Costa Coffee on Goose Street, Newcastle this Thursday 26th January from 1 til 3 pm.

The week of action aims to build on the successes of our new local policing model which was introduced in June last year (2022).  Since it was launched, reductions have been seen in a variety areas including of neighbourhood crime, better call-handling and more officers working on the beat to keep people safe

A Consultant Gastroenterologist is encouraging her colleagues, former patients and members of the public to start the New Year on the right foot and join her on a fundraising parkrun UK.  Dr Alison Brind wants as many people as possible to join her at Trentham Estate next Saturday 28 January to run or walk the 5k course whilst raising funds for UHNM Charity.

Dr Brind who has been treating liver disease locally for 25 years, is lacing up her trainers to raise funds to help treat liver disease at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. She said: ““Liver disease accounts for a third of premature deaths each year in the UK. 95% of liver disease is preventable, but most people are unaware of this. As this month is ‘Love Your Liver Awareness Month, now is the perfect time to get active and raise awareness and funds.”

The City of Stoke-on-Trent’s Lord Mayor Councillor Faisal Hussain is hosting his very own charity football tournament to help raise money for his chosen charities, The Hubb Foundation and Brighter Futures.

The tournament will take place on Friday 17 February 2023 at Fenton Manor Sports Complex’s indoor arena.   and is open to players of all abilities, backgrounds and genders.  Local businesses are being encouraged to enter teams.
